Chuck Gordon – Feelin | 2018 Calypso

The Laventille-born kasio crooner brings a hip swaying melody to producer Julian Nelson’s head nodding instrumental on the feel good track. Chuck, birth name Roderick Gordon, is restraint with his vocals. He confesses his love earnestly in song. And expresses his willingness to take the girl he loves home to meet mama. Chuck Gordon – Feelin, he sings:
“Feelin’ like I could take you home and introduce yuh to mama tonight/Gal de way yuh wine and just feel yuh should see meh papa tonight/ Tonight is mine gal/ Ah wha yuh wine gal/ yuh look so fine gal/ah wanna make yuh mine.”
The two-time National Calypso Monarch has coined the music Jiggy Calypso. He defines the subgenre as contemporary groove music with a respectful nod to calypso’s swinging hay days.
“More and more we see melodies returning to our soca music. The result is the music is being embraced like never before globally. Calypso too has that potential. It’s more than just commentary music. After all it’s the music that first put us on the map,” Gordon said passionately.
A master at his craft Gordon is already a vastly experienced performer. He is a perennial finalist in calypso music’s marque showpiece: the National Calypso Monarch competition. He has toured extensively across the Caribbean region, North America, Central America and Europe. And most recently graduated with a Masters in Human Resource Management from the Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business.
“My thesis was based on Carnival and the NCC (National Carnival Commission). Preparing for it really took up all my time and ironically set back my studio prep for Carnival 2018, but life is about balance.
“That’s one thing my late father Roland Gordon instilled in me, that and an extremely high work ethic. I’m always working, always creating, always thinking of ways to improve. Not just myself but the people around me. In the end that’s what life is all about, impacting the community in a meaningful way,” he said with a smile.
Gordon returns to the studio this week to put the final touches on his Calypso Monarch offerings. He is also preparing for a busy season with nightly performances at the Kaiso House tent and several private engagements already in his books for 2018.
