In the five-month-long buildup to the greatest fete of Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival season, revelers aim for the ultimate rush to overcome the exhaustive siege of tiredness. What motivates them most is the viral drumbeat of their favorite tune, which becomes a sort of anti-till-lay-lay, rejuvenating babash (or Red Bull) that infuses wassiness à la the “sickest behavior.” Nowhere is the quest for the high energy state of this iconic last lap more enthusiastically boosted than in “Second Wave,” the catchy, 2019, on-the-road contender by Soca artiste WiLDFiRE. In this thumped-up riddim (nuff vibes, nuff hype), WiLDFiRE optimistically reset’s his energy “cuz when it hit meh-dis Second Wave-de tiredness leave meh an’ ah ready tuh cause ah scene.”
